Communities In Schools works “directly inside ​public schools, supporting vulnerable students ​and those with the greatest risk of dropping out,” ​according to its website. “We empower ​thousands of students to stay in school and on ​the path to graduation each year. Our trained ​Student Support Specialists do this by linking ​students and their families with resources, ​including mental health counseling, tutoring, ​attendance monitoring, mentoring, and ​afterschool programs

Designer Anthony Rubio threw the ​now-annual fashion fete Monday ​night, sending 18 dogs down the red ​carpet at New York’s American Kennel ​Club Museum of the Dog. Each canine ​donned couture similar to what ​celebrities wore at the Met Gala just ​two weeks earlier.

From the opening number, audiences got to ​see the cast’s skill in action with over-the-​top characters, slapstick comedy and ​powerful vocals. Elliot Muller was especially ​wonderful to watch as Shrek, ribbing and ​joking with the other characters throughout ​the musical but easily switching to more ​emotional numbers like “Who I’d Be” and ​“Build A Wall.”

A very active member of the Laredo theater ​community -- both as a participant and a ​teacher for eight years -- has decided to ​take a step further and has now ventured as ​a businesswoman by establishing the first ​theater school in the city.Gigi Caballero de ​Flores recently opened her Starlite ​Performing Arts school where she teaches ​acting, musical theater and singing, among ​many other things.

A new public art sculpture will be unveiled ​next week at Victory Park in Stockton by ​the city’s Arts Commission.Community ​members are encouraged to attend the ​ribbon-cutting and celebration that will ​take place at 3:30 p.m. on May 30 at 1001 ​N. Pershing Ave.City officials said the art ​piece will pay tribute to the former totem ​pole that once was located at the park.

Spanish police have recovered a ​painting by the late artist Francis ​Bacon that was stolen from a banker's ​Madrid home in 2015.The €5m (£4.2m; ​$5.4m) work is one of five portraits of ​the banker, José Capelo, who was a ​friend of the artist.Three of the stolen ​paintings were recovered in 2017.

Navy Band Southeast, made up of active-duty ​sailors based at NAS Jacksonville, will play ​two Memorial Day shows in Jacksonville and ​another later in the week.The band's ​Windward Brass Quintet is scheduled to ​perform at 8:30 a.m. Monday at a Memorial ​Day observance at the Veterans Memorial ​Wall, which is located between 121 Financial ​Ballpark and EverBank Stadium. The event ​and parking are free.

If you do a search for Mandeep Dhillon’s ​work, you’ll find plenty of acting ​credits.Ricky Gervais’s After Life, Peacock, ​Avoidance and the recently concluded CSI: ​Vegas.But now she’s turning her creative ​hand to something a little different.Having ​released a new song Roll It Up, Mandeep ​tells BBC Asian Network being described as ​a music artist "feels really right".
